Therapeutic Classes
Aqua exercises
Bexhill on Sea
Light exercises in Battle Abbey swimming pool every Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings. The pool is in Penland Road, Bexhill on Sea. Sessions begin at 9.30 am and last for 40 minutes. Fibromites are welcome, as are non-swimmers.
Steyning
Sessions are at the Steyning Leisure Centre on Mondays 10.30 - 11.30 am. Stay for coffee and a chat afterwards. Just turn up and make yourself known. Cost £4 per session. For further details call Debbie Virgoe on 01903 815630. These sessions are so well regarded that referrals have been made by the Physiotherapy Department at Southlands Hospital.
Here's what those who have been attending think about it:
"I really enjoy the exercise and feel better afterwards" Hilly.
"I was rather apprehensive but found the support of the water really
helped. I stopped when I needed to and enjoyed the session and will
definitely come again" Marie.
"I have CFS and have wanted to attend a swimming exercise group for ages
but aquaerobics was too exertive. This is hard work to start with but
gets easier and is fun. We have coffee and a chat afterwards. Everyone
is in the same boat which helps a lot and each of us does as much as we
are able to and no more" Vanessa.
"Really enjoying it, meeting new friends which is good, and having a
laugh" Debbie.
"I really enjoy the aqua classes and look forward to them. Having a
little bit of exercise over a week makes me feel really good. It is
good making new friends too" Lynda.
"It's a real effort to get there but well worth it and I am enjoying the
classes very much" Doreen.
"I used to do a 'regular' Aquafit class, but it was too much for me. A
specially-tailored class for Fibromyalgia/CFS sufferers is perfect and I
am enjoying it. The teacher is very understanding and appreciates the
fact that sometimes we need to take breaks or stop if we have had
enough. I do ache for a day or two afterwards, but I think it's because
I haven't been able to do any exercise for a couple of years and I'm
hoping by regularly attending the classes I will build up some stamina
and fitness and hopefully lose a bit of weight too!" Clare.

I am a Fitness League teacher - see www.thefitnessleague.com - 50p of fee goes towards your annual membership fee/insurance.
I was inspired to learn how to exercise in a paced way following my diagnosis with FMS in 2007 - though I believe I have had it since 1999. I'll aim to help you to improve your overall level of fitness with low-impact exercises for strength, stamina, flexibility, release of muscular tension, and good posture. Good posture starts with control of the core stabilising muscles. I'll encourage you to keep that good posture as you move throughout daily life.
