Report of

THE FIBROMYALGIA SUPPORT GROUP FOR SURREY AND SUSSEX & THE SUSSEX & KENT ME/CFS GROUP MEETING,
26th Feb 2007

The Fibromyalgia Support Group and the ME/CFS Group welcomed sufferers and families to a coffee morning where there were speakers and two DVD shown for their interest. The day was a great success around 70 attended. Apologies for no pictures - our camera sadly failed us on the day. However, Norman did make a web cam recording and this may be available at a later date.

One of our special guest speakers was from Israel; she is the spokesperson for an Israeli non profit organization. Her lecture was on what is going on around the world with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and M.E. and what they are doing in Israel; how they are working with the health insurance companies, with the health Minister, with hospitals, and with social security. She also spoke about her professional support group program that helps people to recover and about her own personal story and how she herself has improved her own quality of life.

The DVDs shown at this event were 1) “Miracles, Medicine and ME: A Practical Guide to Living with ME, CFS, PVS and FM”. This is a 38-minute film, written, directed and filmed by a doctor who has lived with ME for over 40 years and now has it under a high degree of control. See review below, and 2) "Living with Fibromyalgia". A report of this film is given here and is available for purchase from the FMS office. If you would like to order a copy please send a cheque for £13-99 made payable to FMS-SAS to:

The audience included some committee members of our support groups and specially invited guests who were Peter Shelley of Adjustamatic Beds, Emma Constantinos of the Expert Patient Programme, and Linda and Sarah who came and spoke to people about the Lightening Process.

All in all it was a very eventful day.

The event was held at the The Millenium Hall, Crawley Road, Roffey Nr Horsham West Sussex RH12 4DT from 11.00 am until 3.00 pm. Refreshments were available throughout.
We look forward to seeing you all at our future events.

REVIEWS

1. Dr Michael Midgley and Jane Midgley are to be congratulated on having produced an excellent DVD which has a rich content of practical advice to enable ME sufferers to improve their health and well-being. Dr Midgley is a physician and general practitioner who has suffered from ME; this is reflected in the warmth and integrity of his approach. The Torah teaches that each of us has a spiritual soul – the neshama. Dr Midgley addresses this aspect of our existence and so this DVD may particularly appeal to those who are keenly aware of their spiritual side.

2. There is only one word for this film: “excellent”. One does not need to be a sufferer from ME (an acronym used here to refer collectively to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia) to appreciate the wisdom and useful information found here. The fact that this production is deftly put together and technically pleasing only serves to enhance the effect. The ideas are clearly and attractively presented and they make good use of such contemporary spiritual classics as A Course in Miracles.

Of particular usefulness is the distinction that is made between curing and healing, and the important recognition that the human body is something we “have” rather than something we “are”. Also striking is the distinction made between physical pollution and mind pollution.

Dr. Midgley and his colleagues at Overton Studios Trust deserve high praise for launching this project, which will no doubt be helpful to countless people.
