The Mayor and Mayoress of Worthing were the guests of the Fibromyalgia Support Group for Surrey and Sussex on Tuesday 26th June 2005 at the Methold Centre, Worthing. It is two years ago that Jo Fisher founded the Group to aid and educate those people suffering from the little-known illness Fibromyalgia, as well as those who didn't even know it existed! In those two years Jo has established two centres for monthly meetings - Crawley and Worthing, a weekly Yoga class in Horsham, several 'awareness' days and therapy taster-opportunities. The group has been established as a registered charity and is heading towards acquiring office accommodation to take the load away from Jo's home. That's a lot of accomplishment in two years. The meeting was chaired by Sue Hale.
At the start of the meeting Louise Morphew spoke briefly about her work as a Reiki Healer and her aim to hold a series of meetings/workshops to try and help fibromyalgia sufferers.
Dr. Asmita Jani, a holistic practitioner in the Ayurvedic Philosophy explained the advantages of this ancient Indian tradition of natural health care and how it also might help fibromyalgia sufferers.
Norman Lawrence spoke a few words in appreciation of Jo's work, summarising the benefits the group has to offer.
The Mayoress was presented with a posy of flowers and Jo with a bouquet. The Mayor and Mayoress cut the Birthday Cake which was greatly enjoyed by all during an informal gathering that followed. Dr. Jani, the Mayor and Mayoress circulated freely chatting with members.
It was quite a memorable occasion and enjoyed by all who participated.
