Motherhood and Disability Research
June 2008
Content of email from Claudia Malacrida
Good day.
I am a researcher from a Canadian university who has been conducting a project over the past four years that examines the challenges faced by Canadian mothers who are disabled, with a particular focus on the challenges embedded in public policy for women with disabilities. This summer, I will begin a comparative project, examining the experiences of mothers with disabilities in the UK. Based on a comparison of Canadian and UK disability-related policy, I suspect that there may be things that Canadian policy-makers could learn from the UK context. Of course, policy is not necessarily translated into practice, so interviews with mothers
will help to illustrate how family life for disabled mothers unfolds at the personal level within the UK policy context.
Would you kindly consider posting the attached Call for Participants on your website, or in your offices? Perhaps you may be willing to share it with your mailing list? I am keen to speak with as broad a range of women as possible, and any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Best regards,
