Expert Patients Programme
Known as “Living Well”, these are courses for people living with a long-term health condition, helping them to take more control over their health by understanding and managing their conditions, leading to an improved quality of life.
Expert patients:
- Feel confident and in control of their lives;
- Aim to manage their condition and its treatment in partnership with health care professionals;
- Communicate effectively with professionals and are willing to share responsibility on treatment;
- Are realistic about the impact of their disease on themselves and their family;
- Use their skills and knowledge to lead full lives.
Patients can self refer.

More recently, courses have been started under the title “Looking After Me”, for Carers living with someone with a long term condition or disability. As the name implies, the course is about the Carer making time to look after his or her own health needs; it aims to help to take more control of the caring situation and make a difference to life.
Both types of course are free, and occupy one morning or afternoon a week for a six week period, lasting 2˝ hours, including a refreshment break.
Courses are held in various locations and we are happy to publicise forthcoming courses when known.
