FMS Group at Guy's Hospital
News Release - Launch 1st June 2009
Patsy Baker is a member of FMS SAS but she has been working with Prof Davies in setting up a Support Group at Guy's Hospital in London.
Several months ago Pfizer, (manufacturers of Lyrica (pregabalin), the first FDA-approved drug specifically approved for treating fibromyalgia) offered a small ammount of money after a bid, to help set up a support group at Guys Hospital, in London. Patsy says "The set up has been a bit of a life test and about feasibity issues! Setting up any business takes time, a lot of detail, and planning to have everything in place before you start to get any groups involved."
It is at Guy's where Prof Davies is setting up his 'centre of excellence', one of the far too few specialist ME. CFS. and FMS clinics in the country. Patsy is planning group meetings in Croydon, Battersea, Lambeth and Southwark and negotiating another two at the moment. Hopefully, these will be in place in the next few weeks. Events are being held at Guys 3 or 4 times a year.
This is to be a stand alone group, so separate from SAS once it is set up, but co-operation will hopefully be ngHere are details of the launch meeti
Patsy says "As readers may not realise it should be mentioned that 1:50 people have fibro, and very few are diagnosed let alone get treatment. I intend to run a really serious campaign about Fibro this 1st year. All of us will in fact know someone else who has fibro, so always be aware that we can all help someone else through the mire of fibro and get them good info and care more quickly than any of us have probably managed for ourselves. The word is spreading and it will get easier."
So, watch this space and see how things develop.
Well done Patsy - we wish you well in all your work for the new groups.
