The April Hove Conference
Report from Colin Barton - Kent & Sussex ME Society
The April 22nd 2006 Conference at Hove Town Hall was a terrific success
with around 200 ME/CFS/FM patients and professionals packing the banqueting
room and reception.
Those assembled heard a variety of speakers including Celia Barlow MP who
gave a most encouraging opening address and Dr Charles Shepherd lectured on
the latest in the medical field of ME/CFS and covered evidence presented to
the Gibson inquiry.
Dr Susie Rockwell covered treatment topics both orthodox and complimentary
for ME/CFS/FM and Pauline Corrigan who sits on the Bart's CNCC steering
group as a patient representative spoke about the progress being made with
the new specialist services.
Sally Crowe gave an overview on the PRIME project that we have helped with
that has gathered important data from the patient experience perspective
and our patron Des Turner MP spoke passionately about the need for more
serious research into the illness and the role of the All party
parliamentary Group for ME/CFS.
Sue Ellen Nicholls attended and talked about pain management in FM/ME/CFS
and gave some demonstration on pain relieving techniques. There was also a
thirty minute viewing of a DVD covering important research developments in
the field of Fibromyalgia and it's treatment.
Those exhibiting in the reception area included The Fibromyalgia society,
Reflexology, Nutrition, Reverse Therapy, MERGE, Music therapy, PRIME and
Massage therapy.
Refreshments were served, music was played and a prize draw was held and
flowers presented to the lady speakers.
A most informative and enjoyable afternoon.
