There IS Life even with Fibro!

'My 70th Birthday!' - by Stella Bernardi

Is anybody interested that I’ve reached 3 score years and 10, that I’ve passed my sell-by date? I don’t think so – but Jo does and she asked me to write a line or two about it. Celebrations began with a trip on the Bluebell Railway, Golden Arrow Pullman train with Sunday lunch on May 22nd 2005 – a birthday surprise from our three ‘children’. That was living it up in luxury!

Then on to a surprise party at our daughter number 2’s home in Burgess Hill. Drinks, supplied by son, nibbles and CAKE. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Cake with photo of me on it? Clandestinely arranged by daughter number 1. Flowers were provided by daughter No. 2.

Did you know you can provide your own photo or design, have it printed on rice paper at certain supermarkets? The image is then stuck on the cake. Great idea! Nice cake too!

On my actual birthday May 27th my husband and I had lunch with some friends at a restaurant in Littlehampton overlooking the river Arun.

Despite Fibro and now osteoarthritis in left hip and spine I try to be as active as I can, mostly behind the scenes, for various ‘causes’, like FMS SAS, National Autistic Society, Knights Templar - National & International, flower arranging in church (as well as attending regularly) etc. I attend the Fibro meetings at Crawley as I find the talks most helpful; and the Friday Yoga class in Horsham. I have been elected to the Committee as Webmistress to this web site.

Post Script - 18 months later:
In March 2006 I had my left hip replacement operation. This was a great success - no more pain. The end of June saw me back in hospital, for six weeks this time. I was asked to write an article for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Association magazine. You can read this here. By October I was well enough to travel and spent a month in Spain. Very therapeutic!

July 2008 - our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Report here.
