New National Compact to be launched in November 2009

The Compact was originally established by Prime Minister Tony Blair in 1998 and set out how the voluntary/community and public sectors should interact with each other. The compact is now due to be revised and re-launched in November.

Regional Compact launched

The Regional Minister, Jonathan Shaw stated: "I am really pleased to announce the launch of 'Our South East Regional Compact', particularly relevant in these challenging times when we need to work together. It is a real demonstration of our strengths in partnership working in this region." View the Regional Compact here.

Modernisation Fund website now live

Further details on the £16.5million Real Help for Communities, Modernisation Fund have been announced by Capacitybuilders and Futurebuilders. The fund represents a combination of grant and loan funding. To find out more about the fund visit the new website here.

Independence at Home

Independence at Home is a national charity that helps improve independence, comfort, safety, dignity and quality of life for people with long-term illness and disability by helping towards the cost of adaptations, equipment or other things that are not available from public funds. New Race Inequalities Fund

The new Tackling Race Inequalities Fund is now available to be bid for. To be eligible the organisation must:

  • Be a third sector organisation;
  • Have a mission and goals related to reducing racial inequalities;
  • Be able to operate across England or across one or more government office regions in England;
  • Be a legal entity for example a charity, trust, etc;
  • Have an equality statement or policy;
  • Has a proposed work plan that meets one or more of the themes set out in section 3 of the prospectus.
The closing date for applications is 27 May 09.

Tackling Race Inequalities - discussion document

The Communities and Local Government Department is presently seeking responses to its published discussion document 'Tackling race inequalities'. This document seeks opinion to build upon existing race equality legislation and set the context for future inclusion and harmonisation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities within wider communities, working environments and other aspects of life. Views are being sought on a range of possible policy ideas and strategic agenda items. Government thinking is at an embryonic stage presently with a blue sky opportunity for recipients to illuminate the breadth and scope of the Government's future race inequality action. Big Lottery Fund relaunch Awards for All

The Big Lottery Fund has announced the launch of the new-look Awards for All programme. A total of £45 million is available in grants of £300 to £10,000 to grassroots groups in the Voluntary/Community Sector (VCS).
