New Pain Support Group
You can find the poster for the new support group starting on 15 September - "Pain - the hidden disability" here . It is designed to be printed 2 sides of A4, and can be used as a flyer or displayed as a poster, with the 2 side by side. The group will meet monthly at Normandy, near Guildford, starting on 15th September 2008.
This support group is a direct result of the responses of participants in our course "Pain - the hidden disability" last year, which a number of people from the Fibro support group attended. People said that they appreciated coming in to a safe environment in which they could share their own experiences of pain - whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual - and support each other. It will also be a useful forum for information about the various methods of pain management, groups such as Expert Patients, and so on. It is hoped that the support group will develop according to the wishes and interests of those who attend, so that it is relevant and useful to as many people as possible.
The support group is for people living with chronic pain, their families, friends and carers. It is open to people of any faith or none - all are welcome.
I would be most grateful if you could include this information in your newsletter and on your website. If you or your members have any further queries, I would be very pleased to hear from them.
With all best wishes,
Wendy

Holistic Therapies & Advanced Bodywork
I am considering running a self help class, or short course of classes to ease myofascial pain, fibromyalgia, CFS, stiffness and other FMS related symptoms. The class will teach mainly gentle muscular and myofascial stretching but will also involve body/joint movement techniques, rehab exercises, meditation and light core strengthening.
I have learnt a lot about the hands-on treatment of FMS/myofascial pain during my extensive bodywork training. I have also learnt a lot about which exercises/stretches FMS/CFS suffers should, and should not do. I am, however, aware that this information is not generally available to suffers, particularly in class format. I decided to develop a course to try and fill this gap, so FMS suffers can help themselves and limit their fascia tightening/restricting.
If you are a currently a client of mine then I have contacted you about this class because I think you would benefit greatly from it. It is important to note that self help techniques are not intended to replace hands on bodywork though and you will still need to see a therapist to receive trigger point therapy and myofascial release.
Please pass this information onto anyone who suffers with widespread chronic pain, CFS or fibromyalgia. Also please pass this information on to any complementary therapists, physiotherapist or doctors who may work with people suffering with these conditions. Below you can find a links to my new leaflet, my Fibromyalgia advice handout and a class interest booking form. Please complete the form and post or e-mail it to me ASAP if you are interested in attending the class/s.
Yours sincerely,
Kipp Clark
