Mickel Therapy: Tested for the Tried and Tested Project
I reluctantly had to stop working due to my Fibro symptoms and CFS. I tried many treatments, resting, pacing, exclusion diets, Acupuncture, Massage, Physiotherapy, Myofascial Release, Yoga, Reiki, Counselling, and I have seen many different NHS and Alternative Medicine Practitioners, to try and improve my condition. They have all helped me along the way but I remained in pain and my mind remained in overdrive, my sleep was poor, I had lost self confidence, I had no energy and my coping strategies were very low.
At the Tried and Tested project run by Caroline Hinks, I had an opportunity to try Mickel Therapy. I had an excellent Mickel Therapist, Nicola Dean. I have never met her, because our sessions are carried out over the telephone. You are probably thinking … … how could I hold a phone for a long period of time, but it did surprise me, how easy it was.
I was suffering with a great deal of Fibro fog and head pains and Nicola explained this was due to my over active Hypothalmus gland. She taught me how to reduce this by showing me how to get my needs met, how to listen to my body and how to clear my head of issues I had not yet dealt with. Nicola called it ‘clearing the deck’. I learnt to do this by completing a diary sheet of daily events and noted how my body felt at each stage of the day. This helped me identify when my body was reacting in a negative way and how it then became out of balance. By clearing ‘my deck’, I could feel my Hypothalmus gland begin to calm down.
Before long, I felt I did have more energy, my sleep improved and I felt more confident in myself and in my abilities. I am more sociable, I am taking more challenges and I was beginning to feel ‘alive again’. Now, when I feel my body start to go out of balance I ask myself, what has happened to change my body, are my needs met, is there something bothering me I have not dealt with?
I did not think Fibromyalgia was ruling my life but after Mickel Therapy I realised how wrong I was.
